Opening bowlers M Sumner (3-20) & R Wills built pressure from the off bringing a breakthrough for Sumner in the 5th over. Skipper J Nash (1-12) confirmed intent with a wicket maiden in his first over and although the opposition's Nos 3 & 5 set about building a partnership, all bowlers were being ungenerous with runs. A Gleeson chalked up a fifer (5-23) & with I Mellor taking 1 for 39, Southfleet were all out in the 32nd over for 131. P Sumner took a catch in the field and M Sumner & Gleeson each took one off their own bowling.
However after tea, the home side also struggled to get the ball away. Batting middle order Gleeson top scored with 35, but despite contributions to the scoreboard, wickets were also falling with regularity and New Ash Green were bowled out for 95 in the penultimate over.
Beckenham v New Ash Green II - Away, from the scorebook. Playing the 2 stronger teams in the league one after the other is never great for the moral. New Ash Green decided to put Beckenham in to bat. Beckenham made 270-4. K Poole took a catch off his own bowling and M Ives and M McVeigh each got a wicket off the catches of J Clark & F Quantrill respectively.
Skipper G Freeman lead the run chase from the front, opening and chalking up 54 runs. However the rest of the visiting side were unable to make double digits and New Ash Green were all out for 91.
New Ash Green v Sidcup - New Ash Green put Sidcup into bat for this friendly. As often the case there was a wide mix of abilities and despite New Ash Green opening bowlers M Bushe & I Mellor keeping the score to 4 runs after 5 overs, the Sidcup opener (71) soon settled in and the visitors put on 168-8 from their 35 overs.
After tea, New Ash Green also lead from the front with opener L Shaw making 21. However with few pure batsmen in the side, New Ash Green never really got on top of the run rate and batted out their overs for 71-8.
