First XI - In Brief

Sheppey v New Ash Green - New Ash Green were put in to bat by the home side on their first league encounter (presumably by an opposition skipper who hadn't checked out our recent batting form). G Wale opened and set a foundation of 19. D Freeman came in at 4 and added a century to his two fifties this season, this time closing out the 40 overs with 139*. P Sumner (28) & A Gleeson (19) kept him company for a while as New Ash Green finished out the overs with 208-6.

After tea, Sheppey tried to reply, but from the scoresheet nobody was allowed to fully settle in and seriously challenge the runrate and the home side batted out their overs 52 runs short of the required total. Skipper J Nash led from the front with 5-48; M Sumner (1-21) & I Mellor (1-47) took the other two wickets and catches were chalked up by Freeman, Gleeson & M Sumner. So a win for New Ash Green to start the league season.
