New Ash Green v Castlethorpe

Friendly Match - 40 Overs per side

Castlethorpe 125 all out (26.3 overs)
New Ash Green 104 all out (31.5 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 21 runs

Against a touring side who had made over 250 against Gravesend Rugby Club the previous day New Ash Green were happy to be batting second, and John Harley took the opportunity of the midweek game to use a few different bowlers. Matt Dehaney, in a rare appearance for him this year, put in a solid spell opening, taking 1 wicket, but it was from the other end that the fireworks came, with the newly confident Adam Reeves taking 2 wickets in three overs before being forced from the attack after stopping a powerful return drive with his ankle. He was replaced by Matt Clark, bowling seam for the first time in a match, and he tore through the Castlethorpe middle order, taking 4 wickets, all bowled, as Castlethorpe were reduced to 65-7. With Dan Lewsey and John Harley coming on to open the game up the tail was able to wag a bit and take the final total to 125, a score which was respectable on a very worn wicket, but still somewhat below par against a relatively strong New Ash Green batting line up.

The strong batting line up failed to fire though. In a ten over spell before tea three wickets were lost, including the key wicket of Scott McKechnie in a rare batting failure, and George Kleanthous unluckily run out without facing a ball. Things didn't get much better after tea, with runs coming at a snail's pace and wickets falling regularly. Only Dan Lewsey with 23 and Matt Clark with 10* could reach double figures, and eventually the chase ended 22 runs short when John Harley was run out.
