Whitstable (20 pts) 168 all out (42.4 overs)
New Ash Green (9 pts) 115 all out (30.1 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 53 runs
After the Lord Mayor's show…. Or at least after the uplifting win against Tonbridge, it was down to earth with a bump in the game New Ash Green expected to win. Whitstable had previously not won a game, and the results didn't lie – they were undoubtedly the weakest team New Ash Green had played this season in the league. However the inconsistency of availability for New Ash Green this season, very much their Achilles heel, was reflected in the fact that their bowling attack this week used five bowlers, none of whom had been one of the six used the previous week. They did have an umpire for the first time this year, but managed to lose the toss and faced the all too familiar task of bowling first. The early overs saw Whitstable's top order chancing their arm against anything slightly off target, and the runs mounted rapidly, staying well over five an over until nearly the half way stage. It had always looked a little risky, though, and once the first couple of wickets fell the middle and lower order never looked capable of keeping the rate up, especially against Vic Mayers best spell of the season. He took 4-20 in 11.4 overs, and was assisted at the end by a good spell from Joe Elisak, who picked up 2-22 as Whitstable were bowled out for 168, well short of the score that had looked on when they were 85-2 after 16 overs
The score should have been well within reach for New Ash Green, but against relatively modest bowling the batting failed to fire, all the batsmen either getting too bogged down or carried away. Ian Davies smashed a couple of fours and then hit one straight in the air, and Andy Mayers looked in fine form in hitting Graham Gould for five fours in one over, but was out soon afterwards going for one big shot too many. Vic Mayers also looked sound before top edging one, and Micky Sumner was the only other batsman to reach double figures, but the innings tailed off sadly for a score typical of this season against a bowling attack that was far from typical.

After a long walk from the changing rooms to the pitch, New Ash Green were asked to field first, and the problems started from the off. Edges going down behind the stumps, and wide balls being bowled quite frequently. The morale in the field went dramatically down, and the problems in the field deepened with the odd misfield, and the odd rare catch going down. The bowling was very varied with success throughout the innings, as Lewsey's first spell was very good with solid line and length, but Saunders struggled with his accuracy. After only a few overs Saunders was replaced by Harley, who bowled his 12 overs straight through, but struggled to keep the scoring down, as misfields were still very common. During which the bowling was being changed very frequently at the other end, with Freeman coming on and conceding the only 6 of the match, and conceding 30 runs in just 4 overs, and Saunders coming on as well, bowling well in the second spell with little success. Then some solid bowling came on in the form of both Marsh and Brown, with Brown bowling very well at the death, and to finish the innings off Lewsey brought himself back on, but was conceding boundaries and not being able to find an accurate line and length. An all round poor performance, with misfields, drop catches and a drop in morale.
After a good tea, and many people filling themselves up the batting challenge came along, and there was a solid attempt from many of the batsmen throughout the innings. Ives was very solid throughout looking very good, and after Saunders was out for 19, there was a small middle order collapse with 3 ducks, but the tail wagged. After Ives was out, two colts were left at the crease with Brown and Marsh coming together again, and Brown showing how good a pitch it was, with the second top score, after both were knocked over, Harley and Freeman came together. With a solid 36 run partnership, where Harley hit two fours straight past the bowlers head, and knocking one for four and having no clue where it had gone. Harley given a chance when he was bowled off a no-ball. Freeman looked good, until he lobbed a simple catch to point, and Harley was left 18*, his top score for New Ash Green.

With the opposition turning up two men short, New Ash Green gave them two very competent fielders in both Ryan Harley and Josh Harrington. New Ash Green were put into bat, and it was up to Harrington and Saunders to open the innings, but Saunders was not in for long until he lofted a simple catch to Ryan at Square leg. Then a solid partnership came together when Bushe joined Harrington, and both batted well with Harrington missing out on a half century when he was bowled around his legs. This brought Lemon out to the crease, who failed to fire on this day, and got out cheaply, this lead to Lewsey coming out to the middle, and a solid partnership was built, both players getting out in their 40s. And not much more coming from many others, except when Harley J, came out to the crease to 'give Ryan a chance to get him out,' and hit him for 5 of his 9 runs. Finishing with New Ash Green on a solid score with the opposition.
And then Harley opened the bowling with Cooper O at the other end. Cooper bowled some unplayable deliveries but was unsuccessful throughout, while Harley had success by removing two of the batsmen. A change came about when Lewsey started to bowl up the hill, and after Harley finished his spell Freeman came on to bowl a maiden to start off, and eventually gained first wicket of the season with a catch at Square leg by Cooper O. After a short spell Freeman was replaced by Saunders, and then Lewsey started to strike by getting 4 wickets and extending his lead as top wicket taker for the club. Saunders then gained a revenge wicket later on when he removed Ryan Harley, but Ryan has successfully got more runs that Lee had at the top of the innings. After Freeman was reintroduced, he was hit for a few fours, and removed from the attack to bring Cooper T into the attack, and with two catches Cooper finished the innings off giving New Ash Green another win on a sunday.
