The toss was won by John Harley who as always bowls first. with Scott opening the batting JH wanted revenge for Scott being dropped on nought third ball to first slip two years ago.So after being hit for a six and a four in one over Scott was brilliantly caught by David Harley left handed down the leg side for just 20. JH bowled a good opening spell of eight overs taking 1-25 and should have had another if Clive Young had been caught at short leg but an easy chance was dropped. Andy Mayers replaced Dan Lewsey uphill and bowled with good pace and had the Hartley batsmen soon in trouble at 75-6, taking 3-16 from five overs. Ryan Marsh was unlucky in taking only one wicket having two drops off of his bowling. Lee Saunders also bowled with good pace and was also unlucky not to take more than one wicket. Hartley Captain Russell Bennett 65no and Peter Jordan 43 played well before he was bowled from the last ball of their innings by Dan Lewsey. They had by that time put on 119.
In reply Andy Harrington and Dan Lewsey put on 47 for the first wicket before Andy Harrington was caught on the boundary going for another four, he had hit six in his knock of 30. Karl Bartett came and went for six as did Adam Reeves. Then enter Andy Mayers in an unbroken stand of 90 with Dan Lewsey he got off the mark with a single, then he hit three fours in a row of off D.Clarkson then a dot then another four. While at the other end Dan Lewsey was slowly edging towards his maiden fifty for New Ash Green. Finally on the last ball of the 35th over Dan hit Tim Clark straight down the ground for a four to take him to his fifty. At the start of the 36th and final over Andy Mayes still needed two for his fifty. The first ball was a dot then a wide then a dot, then he got a single to give Dan the strike with two balls left. Dan got a single next ball which left Andy Mayers to get the single he needed off the last ball of the game to reach his fifty from only 36 balls. New Ash Green made a great effort in trying to chase down 195 to win and only losing by 29 runs. A great all round display from Andy Mayers and well done to Dan Lewsey for carrying his bat in making his maiden fifty for the club from 95 balls.
