Betteshanger v New Ash Green

Kent Feeder League (East) Match - 46 Overs per side

New Ash Green (1 point) 175 all out (46 overs)
Betteshanger (20 points) 178-1 (32.1 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 9 wickets

vercoming the early loss of Matt Scanlan Martin Pickering and Ruby Shah gave New Ash Green a solid start before Andrew and Michael McNicholas induced something of a middle order collapse. At 54-6 it looked like this might be a long way to come for a very short game, but Andy Mayers and Matt Dehaney turned things around by putting on 56 for the seventh wicket before Dehaney was joined by Adam Reeves, a somewhat reluctant last minute replacement for the sick Ian Martin. On his first team league debut he put in a superb performance, keeping Dehaney company while another 52 were added, before Dehaney fell for an excellent 60. It took the return of Andrew McNicholas to finally end Reeves effort at 13, and Micky Sumner added a few more before Matt Bushe fell to the last ball of the final over.

A respectable score of 175 looked even better when Micky Sumner struck in the first over, but frustratingly that was it for New Ash Green. Betteshanger's second wicket pair put on 178 at an increasing rate, Liam Collins leading the way with 94. Sumner was again the pick of the bowling, but others were increasingly expensive as the batsmen got going, and Betteshanger cantered to victory with nearly 14 overs to spare.

New Ash Green II v Hartley IV

Kent Feeder League (East) Match - 46 Overs per side

Hartley (20 points) 169-8 (46 overs)
New Ash Green (6 points) 97 all out (39 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 72 runs

A good bowling display from New Ash Green kept a string Hartley side in check apart from opener Robin Bennett, who anchored the innings with 61. John Harley picked up four wickets in his second spell, with Paul Sumner taking two and Joe Elisak and Dan Lewsey taking one apiece. Hartley were kept down to 169-8 in their 40 overs.

Missing Matthew Quantrill, but boosted by the presence of Lee Saunders and Paul Sumner New Ash Green made a solid start, with Saunders making 24, Joe Elisak continuing his steady form with 16, Karl Bartlett also continuing his development with 10 and Paul Sumner making 21. At 91-4 the game wasn't entirely out of reach, and certainly there were bonus points there for the taking, but the last six wickets slipped away disappointingly for just six runs. A solid showing against one of the division's stronger sides, but there is still much work to do, particularly on the batting, to mount a challenge for promotion ourselves.

Bearsted v New Ash Green

Friendly Match - 40 overs

New Ash Green 152-8 (40 overs)
Bearsted 116 all out (34.2 overs)
New Ash Green won by 36 runs

After yet another late change of opposition New Ash Green were faced with a novelty in being asked to bat first by Bearsted. The unusual opening partnership of David Baker and Simon Freeman responded well, putting on a solid 34, but the middle order rather tailed away and at 75-7 it didn't look as if an adequate total would be posted. However with Dan Lewsey anchoring the tail on his way to yet another not out David Harley top scored with a brisk 28 and Matt Bushe finally found his batting form, keeping Lewsey company in an unbroken stand of 29 for the 9th wicket, and a total of 152-8.

In contrast to New Ash Green's solid start Bearsted had a disastrous start, with their number four having to fend off a hat-trick ball on the third ball of the innings after John Harley had the numbers one and three caught behind and bowled to the first two balls. Josh Hudon's direct hit run out meant that by the end of the first over the top three batsmen were back in the pavilion having faced just two balls between them. Harley continued to wreak havoc, taking 5-17, while Matt Bushe also produced an economical spell. The Bearsted tail did wag, with numbers 8, 10 and 11 being the top three scorers, but they had been left with too much to do and after Kieran Poole had taken two wickets they were finally finished off by Dan Lewsey, leaving New Ash Green with a comfortable 36 run win.
