Friendly Match - 40 Overs per side
Horton Kirby 223-8 (40 overs)
New Ash Green 47 all out (28.1 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 176 runs
A late change of opposition, not for the first (or last) time this season saw a game against a strong Horton Kirby side. Playing a forty over game Horton Kirby batted steadily throughout the innings, and most of the bowlers posted unspectacular but solid figures. John Harley ended up the pick of the bowlers by taking wickets with each of his last two balls, while Martin Bartlett had a very solid debut spell, taking the first wicket of the innings. Jasper Holliday was able to pick up the one wicket he needed to qualify for the bowling averages, and got it cheaply enough to take the lead in those standings. However with 81 from their opener, Chapman, and several other moderate contributions Horton Kirby made a comfortable 223-8.
New Ash Green's batting was distinctly less sound in response, with most of their hopes pinned on the opening pair Ian Martin and John Harding. They put on 9, but from their on it was pretty much all down hill. Jasper Holliday managed to be top scorer with 8, and Martin Bartlett made 6 on debut, but the least said about the rest the better.

Town Malling 209-5 dec. (44 overs)
New Ash Green 137-9 (37 overs)
Match Drawn
Sunday's game saw an even later change of opposition when Gravesend dropped out on Saturday night, but miraculously a replacement game was found against Town Malling. They being a strong side on a Sunday another mismatch looked on the cards, but having persuaded them to play a time game there was at least some interest towards the end. The home batting always looked strong, but after John Harley removed himself from the attack Simon Freeman struck two quick blows and the batsmen were never really able to get on top. Dan Lewsey bowled a long economical spell without success, though he picked up a wicket when returning at the end, while Freeman bowled 14 overs in taking 2-70 and Adam Reeves bowled one of his best spells, possibly deserving better than the 1-25 that he ended up with.
The eventual score of 209-5 was no where near as high as it had looked like it might be, and with Scott McKechnie and Matthew Quantrill to open New Ash Green felt they might have a chance. However they soon discovered that the wicket was more difficult than it looked, subtle variations in bounce making timing the ball very difficult. McKechnie perished trying to force the pace, and Vaughan John fell soon afterwards. David Baker made an aggressive 17 before being bowled, but no one else could get going at all. Quantrill kept persevering, but could not get the ball away often enough, and the win was already beyond reach when he fell to a superb low catch for 69. Dan Lewsey and Simon Freeman ended up having to see out the last two overs, and succeeded in salvaging the draw.
