New Ash Green v Wye

Kent Feeder League (East) Match - 46 Overs per side

Wye (20 points) 237-5 (46 overs)
New Ash Green (2 points) 108 all out (31.1 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 129 runs

Against a side who are perhaps the league favourites this was always going to be a struggle. The bowling was steady, as was the batting – no big scores, no spectacular performances, but Wye made a decent score with contributions all down the order.

In response New Ash Green lost Matt Scanlan and Martin Pickering early, but had their own steady contributions from Ian Martin (who was apparently a touch unlucky to be given out for 22) Vaughan John (11) and Vic Mayers (33) and Andy Mayers (16). Again, though, no one was able to build on the start they made, and the tail slipped away for a disappointing total of 108.

Saturday 5th July 2008
Bobbing/Lower Halstow IV v New Ash Green II

Kent Feeder League (East) Match - 46 Overs per side

New Ash Green (20 points) 219-5 (46 overs)
Bobbing/Lower Halstow (2 points) 124 all out (33.5 overs)
New Ash Green won by 95 runs

Despite all the forecast rain over the previous few days little appeared to have hit Lower Halstow, and the pitch was hard and in places a touch bumpy. As a result New Ash Green weren't too unhappy to return to their losing ways with the toss and be inserted. Initially it seemed easy going, with Matthew Quantrill and Joe Elisak putting on 48 for the first wicket in good time, but the advent of the slower bowlers bought a bit of a change as they seemed to be able to get the most variety out of the pitch – many balls dieing completely, while the occasional one jumped up and even occasionally ballooned over the batsmen from a good length. As a result no batsman could feel completely comfortable, and Matthew Quantrill survived a drop and a blow in the mouth from ones that did jump, while John Howland and Dan Lewsey both fell to ones that failed to bounce. In between Matt Bushe took advantage of being dropped third ball to make his highest ever score of 24 in a third wicket partnership of 80, an innings highlighted by two straight drives for four. Matthew Quantrill had batted steadily until a few overs from the end, then with a decent total secure threw the bat in the last few overs, taking his score to 143 and the total to 219 at the end of the innings.

Initially both opening bowlers were disappointing in reply, but both responded well to the threat of being taken off. John Harley was unlucky not to get a wicket, beating the bat and getting an edge which Quantrill couldn't hold on to, but Graeme Poole snapped up three wickets, two bowled and the middle one a stunning catch from Matt Bushe to remove the unfortunate Liam Haworth who middled the ball to gully to see Bushe clinging on to it in self-preservation as it headed for his face. The change of bowling saw Keith Bushell claim two wickets, including the crucial wicket of Peter Aylott, caught by a delighted John Harley, but Dan Lewsey couldn't get the sort of variation in bounce he had been hoping for after his own dismissal. Kieran Poole started with an over of legside balls, but straightened up a bit to take three wickets, all bowled with good balls, while Joe Elisak took another and the game was wrapped up with plenty of time to spare and a big enough points gap over their opposition to make the second team a reasonably comfortable bet to avoid relegation at the half way point of the season.
