Wickham Park v New Ash Green
Saturday 27th May 2006

Kent League Match - 100 Overs

New Ash Green (8 points) 117-6 (31.3 overs)
Sidcup (8 points) did not bat
Match abandoned.

A dry afternoon on Friday and dry morning on Saturday allowed a weakened New Ash Green side to travel to Wickham Park in hope. The drizzle started soon after the first ball was bowled, but in difficult conditions Pete Burke and Simon Duke, the makeshift opening pair, saw off the new ball and paved the way for the middle order, particularly Luke Bowden with 52 and Andy Mayers with 22, to make light of the conditions. With a near full strength bowling attack available New Ash Green’s score was already looking very competitive in bowler friendly conditions, but an increase in the strength of the rain brought matters to an early conclusion.

Wilmington II v New Ash Green
Sunday 28th May 2006

Friendly Match – 40 overs per side

Wilmington II 82 all out (29.3 overs)
New Ash Green 67 (28.3 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 15 runs.

I have no report for this game, but given the weather, the fact that Wilmington’s ground is in the bottom of a bowl and looking at the scores I suspect the conditions were on the bowler-friendly side.

Having won the toss and inserted Wilmington New Ash Green’s young side seem to have performed creditably in bowling out Wilmington for 82. Dan Lewsey and John Harley bowled tidy opening spells, Graeme Poole followed up with 4 wickets to confirm his status as the club’s leading wicket taker this season, Luke Shaw produced another tidy spell and Joe Elisak mopped up the tail. Lee Saunders, keeping wicket, picked up four catches to leap to the top of those rankings.

Without much in the way of recognised batting New Ash Green struggled in reply. The top scorer, by a distance, was wides with 19, Alan Carter reached double figures and Graeme Poole chipped in some late order resistance with 9, but ultimately they fell short. It still seems to have been a well balanced game, and given the recent weather both sides were probably grateful to get a game in at all.
