New Ash Green v Old Colfeians
Saturday 12th August 2006
Kent League
Match - 100 Overs
Old Colfeians (20 points) 201-7 declared (42 overs)
New Ash Green (3 points) 77 all out (31 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 124 runs.
For a while it looked as if New Ash Green might be rescued by the
weather as a cobbled together side watched the grey clouds overhead, but
although there was one brief break early on the rain mostly stayed away and the
match went its full course. Colfeians had chosen to
bat first in search of 20 points to bring them back into the promotion race,
and early on Andy Cox had them in considerable difficulty, beating the bat a
number of times and having at least two catches dropped off his bowling. Cox
was more successful in taking catches himself, taking three good ones to give
Andy Stuart 2-36. Matt Scanlan bowled his spin to
good effect, only the occasional loose balls, not surprising given the damp
conditions, letting him down, but it was he who worked his way through the Colfeians line up, ending up with 5-57 from 14 overs. At one point Colfeians
were 119-6, but some late hitting, particularly from Richard Thomas who made
59*, ensured they were able to get to 201 and declare, giving themselves 9
extra overs, and more significantly more time before
possible rain interruptions, to bowl New Ash Green out.
Matt Scanlan looked briefly promising,
scoring 4 from the first ball, but got carried away trying to drive and was
caught soon afterwards. Andy Stuart, who needed to leave early, also went early
before Marc Klus, making 22 in his best innings of
the season, and Andy Cox with 20 put up some resistance. Waheed
Khan, who had been fairly ineffective opening the bowling
then came back on from the other end to devastating effect, running through the
remaining batsmen to finish with 7-19. One small triumph came for Matt Bushe when he turned Khan off his legs for 4, his first
runs for the first team in the league!

Bapchild II v New Ash Green II
Saturday 12th August 2006
Mid-Kent
League Match - 92 Overs
Cancelled
-rain
Having struggled to piece sides together New Ash Green travelled
with 10 only to arrive at Bapchild as heavy rain was
falling. A brief dry spell gave some hope before the rain returned in earnest,
leaving the square covered in large puddles. The game had to be cancelled,
which was a shame as Bapchild were also struggling to
raise a side and had a number of colts playing, so the game would probably have
been an even contest.
