Tenterden v New Ash Green
Saturday 5th June 2004
Kent League
Match - 100 Overs
New Ash Green
(1 point) 63 all out (31.2 overs)
Tenterden (16 points) 66-3 (22.2 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 7 wickets.
New Ash Green’s long trip into the depths of
rural Kent was rewarded with an attractive ground, though not apparently as
attractive as the grounds of the neighbouring stately home, which Andy Stuart
took most of the team on a tour of before the game. The wicket looked good, and
New Ash Green were pleased to be asked to bat on
losing the toss. However it was soon clear that the wicket was not quite as
true as had been hoped, with one end particularly crumbling and providing very
variable bounce from the high action of Neil Crowley. Nonetheless New Ash Green
seemed to start steadily, but openers Andy Cox and Matthew Quantrill
were both undone by good balls from Mark Brann, both
scoring 6. Cox dug out a yorker only to see it
deflect off his pads onto the stumps while Quantrill’s
recent run of heavy scoring was ended by a pearler
which cut away to knock back his off stump. From there on a mixture of careless
batting and difficult bounce contributed to another collapse, the low point
being reached at 31-8, with only Simon Duke, with 11, playing any sort of
innings. The opening bowlers rested after drinks, Brann
taking 3-25 and
While the pitch was not great 63 was a long way
below adequate. Nonetheless Andy Cox and Andy Stuart put their all into an
opening spell which troubled the opening bats, Cox in particular beating the
bat a number of times without finding the edge. Although luck didn’t quite seem
to be on New Ash Green’s side Tenterden would still
have struggled had it not been for their captain Nick Hall, who was quick to
pounce on anything loose, particularly outside off stump and scored 30. The
other batsmen all struggled, but although James Hewitt picked up 2-16 and Micky Sumner 1-5 in 4 overs, with
the assistance of excellent catches by Marc Klus and
Chris Yue, there was never any doubt that they would
make the runs. New Ash Green were at least able to celebrate scoring one league
point this week, but the batting will have to improve dramatically if they are
to return to winning ways.

New Ash Green II v Addington
II
Saturday 5th June 2004
Kent League
Match - 100 Overs
Addington II (20 points) 186-9 (50 overs)
New Ash Green II (4 points) 92 all out (31.4 overs)
New Ash Green lost by 94 runs.
No report received, but it seems that Addington scored steadily throughout their innings, and
although wickets fell fairly regularly NAG failed to finish them off, the 10th
wicket adding an unbeaten 45. Pete Burke with 4-41 and Paul Sumner with 2-41,
both in 15 overs, were the star bowlers, but most of
the rest seem to have struggled, though none were really taken apart. Blair
Wilson conceded only 2 runs in a 2 over spell, and Bobby Kanda, Dan Lewsey and Robin Wills each picked up a wicket.
Rob Jansen and Pete Burke put on 33 for the 1st
wicket, and things looked promising when the numbers 2 and 3 bowlers had been
hit out of the attack by the 7th over. However that brought on Fabrice Klein who promptly destroyed the top order with six
wickets, ending with 6-22 from 10 overs. Addington captain Keith Stone was meanwhile conceding just
19 runs in 9 overs, and when he was done Mark
Sullivan-Bradley ended a mini revival by Graham Hampsheir
and Alan Carter by mopping up the tail with 4-10.

New Ash Green III v RASRA
Saturday 5th June 2004
League Match -
45 Overs per side
A win at last for the thirds…courtesy of RASRA being expelled
from the league after failing to raise a side for their first 3 league matches!
New Ash Green v Hunton
Sunday 6th June 2004
Hunton (6 pts) 184-4
New Ash Green (0 pts) 72 all out
New Ash Green lost by 111 runs
No match report received – scores taken from the KVL site. There is a link to the scorecard, but no
heroic deeds spring out from it. Bobby Kanda took two wickets, and George Kanda and Charles Duguid seem to have been the only two batsmen to make
double figures, but it never seems to have been much of a contest!
