New Ash Green III v Halstead II
Saturday 27th July
Central League Match - 40 overs per side, max. 8 per bowler
New Ash Green 175 all out
Halstead 143 all out
New Ash Green won by 32 runs.
In their inaugural match at Manor Field, New Ash Green won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket which made for interesting cricket.
Ringers Andy Cox and Andy Stuart opened the innings before the first team skipper quickly departed for a single. A partnership of 70 between Cox (60) and Graham Hampsheir (19) helped set up a total of 175 all out in 39.2 overs, Andy Tutt (14) the only other batsman to achieve double figures!
On a deteriorating wicket, Halstead batsmen were up against it from the start, Tom Strong bowling very well on his way to 2-20 and solid support from Matt Pennell 8-0-31-0 kept the run rate down. The first change bowlers proved even more stingy as "new find" Andy Tutt 8-1-19-2 and Alan Cottrell 7-0-28-2 kept Halstead out of the game. Graham Hampsheir took the final wicket to dismiss Halstead for 143 off 35.1 overs.
The third team's second win in a row helped propel them to midway in the table and with four games remaining hopefully we can progress further.
