The first scheduled game of the season always looked like an optimistic date, even as early as December, and after a few brave colts had gone through their paces in the nets on Wednesday evening the senior members tramped across the mud to have a good look at the square, which actually doesn't look too bad, before retiring hastily to the bar to enjoy a round of drinks on the chairman. The decision to abandon the opening 1sts v 2nds game was not a difficult one, but (appalling weather forecast aside) the ground is actually not as wet as might be expected and there is still a possibility that the first full weekend's cricket will actually take place….
